The Village travelled to Abercynon for the first weekend of the WRU Plate competition . Hopes were high amongst the players and supporters, but the team never clicked and came off second best to deserved winners on the day Abercynon.

The visitors started off well and were rewarded with a penalty converted by full back Shaun Davies to take an early lead. They were also unlucky when a slippery ball was dropped whith the home try line at mercy.

The home team gradually came back into the game and after a period of pressure the Abercynon scrum half twisted away from the defenders to score in the corner, with the conversion giving them a 7 - 3 lead. The rest of the first half continued to be scrappy showing that players have not played for last eighteen months. Abercynon finished the half stronger and their left wing scored in the corner after more good work by the scrum half to give them a 12 - 3 half time lead.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first, rather scrappy/disjointed and fractious. 

Abercynon extended their lead after a being awarded a penalty at the scrum, despite Abercwmboi thouroughly dominating that phase of play all afternoon. However, the Village came back strongly and young debutant Jayden Burton spotted a gap and scampered through to score a try which was converted by Shaun Davies. The match continued to be a scrappy stop/start affair with both teams in pushing hard and contesting well until 10 minutes before the end when the referee awarded the home team a penalty which was converted to make the final score 18 - 10.

All of the Abercwmboi youngsters Jayden Burton, Sam Evans, Will Edwards and Aaron Blitho making their debuts, showed up well and are looking like great additions to the squad for the future of the club.
