Village win Local derby

Abercwmboi players, officials, and most of the large crowd, were delighted with last Saturday's deserved (and long overdue) league win against Local rivals Aberdare.

It was a real "game of two halves" as Abercwmboi were dominant in the first half, but were made to work much harder after the break. The home team started strongly and the visitors were not helped by the injury to one of their props in the second minute, after which Abercwmboi totally dominated the scrums and with so much possession most of the play was in the Aberdare 22metre area. This dominance was rewarded after 9 minutes when centre Dylan Fiddler finished off a good team move to score near the posts, after which the ever reliable Shaun Davies converted to make the score 7 - 0. The first half continued in similar fashion and "the Village" scored two more tries through scrum half Jack Lewis and left wing Matty Jones, both converted by Shaun Davies to make the score at the break 21 - 0.

After half time both teams looked totally different, with Abercwmboi seeming to relax and Aberdare taking the opportunity to dominate territory and possession. However, even with all the advantage the score stayed at 21 - 0 untill the 65th minute when the Aberdare right wing, Matthew davies, scored out wide. This was quickly followed by another try  to bring the scores to 21 - 10 and start to worry some of the Abercwmboi supporters. This seemed to be the wake up call that the home team needed, after which they started to gain possession and territory and were rewarded when second row Gavin Hay crashed over and Shaun Davies again converted.
